"If you know someone who has lost a child or anybody who's important to them, and you're afraid to mention them because you think you might make them sad by reminding them that they died, they didn't forget they died. You're not reminding them. What you're reminding them of is that you remembered that they lived, and that's a great, great gift" - Elizabeth Edwards

"The deep hurt is the mirror image of the deep joy that still awaits you." - Bruce C. Hafen

Gingerbread cookies and more playing in snow

Last night we made some ginger bread cookies. Yum, yum. The kids went a little crazy with the frosting, haha.

The kids played in the snow again today. They all love it, especially Nicci and Lionel. They have been outside the most!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We went to my in laws house. It was really nice to get out of the house after having been home for a whole week since having Tyler. We ate so much yummy food, treats and pies. The kids had fun with their cousins while the adults chatted. Tyler slept a lot and was calm and content when he was awake. Everyone enjoyed holding him and meeting him. So grateful for family.

First snow!

The kids were SO excited to wake up to snow this morning and they couldnt wait to go outside! Tyler and I slept in until almost 9 but Eric took the kids outside a little after 8. The kids went over to a neighbors house and played with their kids. They had a blast! They have been outside a lot today! Yay for snow!

Baby shower!

My friend Jaime threw me a baby shower two days before Tyler was born. I had such a great time, chatting with my friends and opening some awesome gifts for little Tyler. We enjoyed some yummy treats too! I love all my friends and their support has meant so much during this pregnancy. So many of them have helped me watch my kids during my many appointments at the end, or listened to my worries or asked how I have been doing. So grateful for all of them. Thanks Jaime for such a fun shower!

Tyler is here!

I was scheduled to have an elective induction on the morning of November 20th. When I called at 7.30 in the morning they said that they were too busy for me to come in. Lots of babies wanted to be born that day. They told me to try and call back again at 3pm to see if things had slowed down. I was really disappointed and tried to tell myself that we probably wouldnt get in that day. When I called at 3pm I couldnt get a hold of the charge nurse because she was busy with another patient. Finally at 5 pm I got to talk to her and she told us we could come in after 7pm to start the induction. I was SO giddy and excited but also a little nervous . We called my mother in law who was going to stay the night with the kids. We got to the hospital around 7.45. Here is a picture of me on the night of November 19th before going to book group. One of the last belly pictures.

As soon as we were all checked in and got our room, labor and delivery got all busy again. So we waited in the room until about 9pm when they started to give me my iv and get everything started with pitocin. I started to feel the first contractions  around 11 pm. I sat on a birthing ball and bounced a little and also walked around a little in the room. Contractions started to pick up more and I think I asked for the epidural around 3 or 4 am. This epidural was the best. I felt zero pain but could still move around my legs and myself as much as I wanted in the bed. After a little while my blood pressure dropped a little but they put something in my iv that brought it up again and after that everything was fine. After I got the epidural I slept until 7.15 when my Ob came in to talk and check me. I was at almost a 5. She broke my water, talked a little more and then it was time for her to go home. Dr Lo was going to be on call the rest of the day and she was also wonderful. She delivered Savannah and I have only had good experiences with her. After Dr broke my water things started to pick up more. I could feel him move down more and more but felt zero pain. I started to feel more and more pressure around 9am but the doctor was busy with a c section. When she came back she checked me and I was at an 8. The pressure kept getting more and more intense and when they checked me a while later I was ready to go and push. Lots of people came into the room and I was so excited because I knew he was soon going to be here. I only pushed twice and he was out! Everyone started laughing at how easy he came out. I didnt tear at all and needed no stitches. I only had minimal swelling too. Doctor said everything went great! Its such an amazing feeling the first time I get to see my babies. One funny thing that happened was that as soon as he came out he grabbed the cord to the heart beat monitor and wouldnt let go of it. So funny.

We came home around 12.30 on Saturday. We are so happy to be home with him. I feel so blessed how well everything went. I feel so happy that my Ob was able to get me in when she did. This pregnancy was long with lots of anxiety and worry but its all better now when he is here and healthy!  We love him so much!

Thinking of Oliver

How do you say good bye not only to a dream, but a part of you? How do you say good bye to one so young and small, who lived such a short time?  (unknown)

Those we love don’t go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
