"If you know someone who has lost a child or anybody who's important to them, and you're afraid to mention them because you think you might make them sad by reminding them that they died, they didn't forget they died. You're not reminding them. What you're reminding them of is that you remembered that they lived, and that's a great, great gift" - Elizabeth Edwards

Sunday

On Sunday we went to church together. We took this picture after coming home.

After lunch we played these two games before it was time for them to leave. I love these games because they remind me of how we used to play them as little kids. It always makes me laugh so much playing these games. It was extra fun to hear Eric and Makram pronounce the Swedish words in the game Löjliga familjen. 🙂

It was so wonderful to have Virginia and Makram here. We didn’t want them to leave and we miss them! We  loved getting to know Makram better and he will be a great addition to our family! Nicci was crying on and off the rest of the day because she missed them so much. We love you!

Saturday

On Saturday morning we went bowling. It had been like a year since the last time we went bowling and the kids were thrilled! It’s fun to watch them hold the heavy bowling ball and throw it. Lionel ran so fast one time that he slipped and fell right after the threw his bowling ball. Poor guy, but it looked so funny!

Friday-Going to Seattle

On Friday we went to Seattle for the day. We had some pretty crazy things happening during this day. First of all….we were going to take the 10.25 ferry but the kids had changed the time in the car so we thought we had more time than we did, so we ended up missing that ferry. So we ended up waiting at the ferry terminal for an hour for the next ferry, but the kids did fine waiting. They were excited when we got onto the ferry. We didn’t bring our car and had planned on walking around in Seattle….well while we were on the ferry it started to rain….and we had not brought any umbrellas. Luckily we met our friends the Lea’s on the ferry and they lent us two umbrellas that we could use. It didn’t rain the whole time we were in Seattle but when we first got there it did and we were so happy we had the umbrellas. Thanks again!

Eric works really close to the Pike’s place market….so we stopped by for a potty break and he grabbed some snacks for the kids.

A butterfly landed on Eric’s shoulder. There was also another guy who had a butterfly land on his head and the kids thought that was so funny.

On our way home, the ferry left late so we had to wait 15 extra minutes at the ferry terminal….and when we got off the ferry and to the parking lot we couldn’t start the car. The battery was dead…We got out of the car so fast that morning to try to make it onto the ferry that we must have left some of the lights on in the car and the battery drained. We had parked Makram’s car about a mile away because it was free parking there…so the guys had to walk to get his car so that they could jump start our car. Virginia and I took the kids to a local market where I bought them some snack because it was way past dinner time and they were hungry. The kids were kind of crazy there because they had not had naps that day and them being hungry didn’t help either. I was so relieved when the guys pulled up and told us we could go home. We were all so tired, we picked up some pizza on the way home and the kids went to bed right away after eating dinner. Phew!  Besides all the craziness, we had a fun day. 🙂

Thursday

On Thursday we went to downtown Poulsbo and walked around. It was a cold and foggy morning. We went to the Marina market where Virginia bought some Swedish food, and we also went to Sluy’s bakery and bought some yummy treats. It’s always fun to try new treats from that bakery. The kids played on some big rocks they have downtown and ran around and got some energy out. It was a nice morning.  🙂

Christmas

We had a really nice Christmas. Virginia and Makram arrived at our house around 10 pm the night before and it was so fun to have them here. They stayed with us until this afternoon (Sunday) when they left to go and visit my sister and her family in Oregon.

The kids were so excited when they woke up on Christmas morning. We loved to see their joy and excitement! I am so excited about my gift! I got a Nikon D3200 DSLR camera. No more blurry phone pictures. 🙂 Eric was excited about his Kindle Fire. He will be able to use it a lot during his commute to read or watch shows.  It was a very relaxing day. We spent the day watching movies, playing games, talking, the kids played with their toys and we went outside for a little bit. Virginia also took the kids on a walk around the block. We had yummy steak for dinner and cheese cake and pumpkin pie for dessert. We were so full at the end of the day.

Christmas Eve!

We spent Christmas eve at my in laws house. We skyped a little bit with my family while we were there too. We ate a ton of yummy food, got to open some presents and we just relaxed and had a nice time. My sister Virginia and her fiancé Makram was driving up from Utah to see us on Christmas eve, and we were very excited to meet them later that night.

4th day of Advent

I had the opportunity to play violin at church yesterday. I got to decide what song, so I decided to play one of my favorite hymns that we sing during Christmas in Sweden, “Bereden väg för Herran” or “Prepare the way, oh Zion.”

My Oliver

Our little Oliver would have been 2 1/2 this Christmas. We miss him and think of him often. We always try to come up with different ways to remember and honor him each year. This Christmas we bought two Christmas gifts to a little two and a half year old boy who is also named Oliver. I’m so glad we did and it felt very special. Merry Christmas Oliver. We love you!

Snow, Snow, Snow!

Last year we got some snow for Jordan’s birthday on the 19th. This year we got it on the 20th. The kids were bouncing of the walls that morning of excitement of the snow. School started two hours later than normal that day, so after breakfast we went out and played in the snow. Sadly, all the snow was gone later in the afternoon.

Nicci was so excited she went out in the snow in just her night gown.
