"If you know someone who has lost a child or anybody who's important to them, and you're afraid to mention them because you think you might make them sad by reminding them that they died, they didn't forget they died. You're not reminding them. What you're reminding them of is that you remembered that they lived, and that's a great, great gift" - Elizabeth Edwards

So, poor Eric had surgery to have his appendix removed two days ago. Wednesday started out as a normal day. Eric went to work around 7. When Nicolina woke up around 8.30 I turned on the computer as usual and logged on google talk to say good morning to Eric. He told me he wasn’t feeling well. I didn’t know how sick he really was. An hour later he said that he was coming home. He was in a lot of pain and threw up once. He wasn’t comfortable lying down or sitting up. Nothing he did would make the pain go away. Still he felt like it was not bad enough for the ER so we decided to go to a Prompt Care facility. (Since we haven’t lived here so long, we haven’t gotten a doctor for us yet). We spent the next 3!!!! hours at the prompt care place before we finally saw a doctor….That’s prompt care for ya… Poor Eric was in so much pain but didn’t really show it. Even I had a hard time understanding how much he was hurting. Thankfully we had dropped Nicolina off at a friend’s house so she didnt’ have to wait too. At the prompt care place they did some bloodwork and the results were not good or normal. So they told him to go to the ER. We got there in the evening around 6.30 and Eric had to wait until 11.30 pm before he finally went into surgery. Sure enough, his appendix was inflammed. It was a long day and night…. I went home very late, got Nicolina and went to bed. The next day we spent a lot of time at the hospital. When I came there in the morning Eric was on heavy drugs so it was kind of hard to make contact with him. He looked really tired. Later in the day he felt better and was sitting up. Eric went home the same night and got a good nights rest at home. Hospitals kind of creep me out. The beds, blankets, food…uaah. Anyways, he is recovering well and will be home for a week or so. Nicolina and I are taking care of him and I’m grateful everything went well. We love you Eric!

Bea Becomes Mobile!

So after many months of considering the purchase of a slightly used vehicle we finally decided to do it. We tossed around several ideas of what kind of vehicle to get but finally left the house with a list of 10-15 cars on consumer report’s best of the best list. The plan was to buy a car with 60-80k miles on it that was only 5-10 years old. Well, by the time we got to the second dealership we were introduced to the car that would soon be ours…It wasn’t on the list. But it wasn’t on the worst or the worst list either. It was a 2004 Hyundai Sonata. It’s a very nice car, going for over $20,000 new. We got it for less than half that.

As you can see it’s got tinted windows, alloy wheels, fog lights and looks much like a Jaguar. The inside has leather (nice for clean up after kids), a good sound system, automatic everything, and my favorite, a manual mode (known as Shiftronic in Nissan cars) for the automatic transmission.

All in all I would say that car shopping is not my favorite thing. The sticker price on this was $12,000. I got it down to $8,700 or so which was still more than our goal of $7,500. But it had less miles and was newer than what we wanted. I didn’t really like the whole haggling process. Before we went I read an article entitled Confessions of a Car Salesman. This is a great article where an employee of Edmunds.com goes and gets a job at a couple car sales lots and then writes about all the things he learns. I felt like it was exactly as described here. I mean, our car sales guy, Li was a nice guy, he just has car salesman tactics. Anyhow, it would be nice to just buy a car on the shelf at Walmart. Maybe next time we’ll buy new just so we can get a quote online and go buy it for the quoted price, rather than haggle.

Now Bea is free. While I’ll likely drive the Sonata most days (better fuel economy) Bea will have a car to get around. We kept our other car, the Crown Vic for a second car.

Fun Hairstyles!

One of my friends did this on her blog and I thought it would be fun if I did it too. If you go to http://www.instyle.com/instyle/makeover/ you can change your hair into different hairstyles or colors. I had a lot of fun doing this. Here are some examples:

Some of them look a little weird, especially the first and last one . I don’t think I would look good as a blond.

28 Weeks Pregnant!!

Today I’m 28 weeks pregnant! Time is going fast.

And of course a picture of Nicolina.

A Trip to the Splash Park!

On Thursday Nicolina and I visited a splash park with a friend and her little girl. I really thought Nicolina was going to love it, since she loves to go swimming. It turned out she was scared of the fountains splashing water up in the air. She also seemed scared of all the other children running around and splashing water. I held her hand and we walked around a little bit in the water. However, most of the time we sat on the edge of the pool and I let Nicolina kick and splash in the water with her feet. It was a really hot day and we both got a little tanned. But it was fun! I hope Nicolina is not going to be as scared next time we go there. We took some pictures. As you can see in the first one, Nicolina was not enjoying herself.

Oh and by the way. Nicolina has 4 new teeth that I didn’t even realize she got until one day when I felt her gums. Cute little girl wasn’t even more fussy than normal. She now has 4 teeth on the bottom and 5 on top.
Another thing that is fun is how she imitates everything Eric and I do. One day when I was done brushing my hair, I put the hairbrush down and turned around. When I turned back Nicolina had stretched up, taken my brush and was brushing her hair. It was so cute. Another thing she does is she goes and gets my cell phone, opens it and puts it to her ear and starts to speak her babble language. So cute! She also tries to put her own shoes on and gets very upset when she can’t. She has started to be a little rebellious too. Ha-ha. When we tell her that it’s time to change her diaper or put her clothes on she almost always runs away into another room. Whenever we tell her, “Come here Nicci,” she smiles really big and runs away. Then she wants us to chase her around the house. Funny girl!

Pierre Enters the MTC!

Today my brother Pierre entered the MTC! Eric and I were sad we couldn’t be there but my mom sent us some pictures. He is going to serve in the Donetsk, Ukraine mission Russian speaking. We are so excited for him! I can’t believe my brother is a missionary! He is going to do great! I’m going to write to him as often as I can! Anyways here are some pictures.

Nicolina’s 1-Year-Checkup!

So today it was time for Nicolina’s 1-Year Checkup… I knew she was going to get some immunization shots so I had prepared myself mentally for that. I think it’s harder to look as she gets older. Nicolina is doing really well. She was talking to the nurse and the doctor and pointed at different things in the examination room. She now weighs 25!! lbs 12 oz!! No wonder I shouldn’t carry her around! She is 31 1/2 inches tall. She is in the 97th percentile for both weight and height. Wow. The doctor told us to wean her off the bottle and start to give her whole milk instead of formula. No problem, Nicolina loves to drink whole milk and she likes her sippy cup better than her bottle. Then it was time for the shots. I almost started crying because she started shaking her hands and looked at me totally terrified. She was screaming more than other times too. I hate it when they give her shots. She is doing fine now. I let her take her new stroller and baby doll outside and she had a lot of fun as you can see. I think it’s funny the way she is carrying her doll with the head down.

Nicolina’s Birthday!

I haven’t been able to write anything about Nicolina’s 1st birthday
yet. So here we go. It was a wonderful day! My mom made this wonderful
strawberry cake for her. It was so yummy. Nicolina got some nice gifts!
In the afternoon we had a little party for her. I can’t believe she is 1! Time sure flies. One year ago I brought this little newborn
home from the hospital. Crazy! Nicolina had such a fun day! She loves her new toys. When she ate the cake she got so messy! It was fun. We love her
so much!

A Fun Week With Family!

My mom and two of my sisters are going to Utah to visit my sister today. They are on their way to the airport right now. I think we have had a lot of fun! We loved having them here. It’s nice to know that they have seen where we live now. I’m so happy they could be here for Nicolina’s birthday even if Nicci was very shy almost the whole time. She is usually not this shy but this last week she was very clingy towards me and Eric. We have done lots of shopping! One day we went to Seattle and another we went to the water front park. We have also had a barbecue with some friends and walked in some woods. I never though the week would go this fast! Crazy! It’s so weird to have them gone and just be me and Nicolina during the day again. Here are some pictures from the week. I wish I had some more but we took a lot with my mom’s camera and for some odd reason we couldn’t transfer them to our laptop. Maybe I will get them later.

Sisters and Nicolina!
I wish I could post a picture of me and mom but it’s on her camera.

Right now Nicolina is taking a nap and Eric is picking up my mom and two of my younger sisters at the airport. They will be here soon! I can’t wait to see them! I’m so happy that we will have a week to visit with them and that they can be here for Nicolina’s 1st birthday on Wednesday. Waiting, waiting!! Soon I’m going to start with dinner.
I took this picture yesterday when Nicolina had her pants on her head. We were laughing really hard because she kind of looks like a nun. Our green little nun! Oh and btw the time is always wrong on our blogs for some reason. It’s 5pm here now not 7.

Our Family
