You're not reminding them. What you're reminding them of is that you remembered that they lived, and that's a great, great gift" - Elizabeth Edwards

Nicolina’s First Teeth!

This last week, Nicolina has been very, very cranky and needy. She has been mad about everything. We were wondering what was happening with our otherwise happy girl. Eric and I figured it was probably teething. I felt her gums a couple of times, but didn’t feel anything. So I just gave her tons of attention and have practically been carrying her for a week. Last night I put her to bed as usual, but at 12 am I heard her cry a little bit. Then she got quiet. She usually sleeps all night so I thought it was weird. I fell asleep again. Then I woke up at around 1 am and Nicci was crying really loud. I went in there and tried to see what was wrong. Everything seemed fine. She continued to cry and I decided to feel her gums. I was SO surprised when I felt not just one but TWO teeth! I was really excited for a few seconds and then started to feel really bad for the poor girl. No wonder she has been so sad. It must have hurt so badly for her. I picked her up and rocked her to sleep again. My sweet little girl got her first two teeth!! I’m such a proud mom!

Another fun thing was that Eric gave me my late Christmas present yesterday! I got my bread maker!! Yay! Of course we had to try it out right away. It’s so amazing. You just put all the ingredients in and it does the whole baking for you. Good for lazy me. We tried the express bread just because we got it so late at night. It took 55 minutes to get a loaf. It was so yummy, all warm and nice!

Today I went to the mall with Brenda and we also went to that cheap Fallas Paredes store again. This is what I bought. I figured Nicolina “needed” some new clothes after that whole teething ordeal. Hehe…anyways.. Before I went Eric told me, “Don’t buy anything…wink, wink” Whoops! I love buying baby clothes! (Especially when I find cute, cheap ones)!

Nicolina’s 6-month checkup!

This doctor’s visit was not funny! First I had to wait in the waiting room for like more than an hour. I still don’t know why because they didn’t seem busy. Then when we finally got in, Nicolina was tired. She started crying right away when we got into one of the examination rooms. Every time the nurse said something it would make Nicci cry. It was her “I am scared cry..” Poor girl. The nurse weighed and measured her. (While Nicci was crying). She weighed 20 lbs 9 oz and measured 27.5 inches. I was right!! She was over 20 lbs. So now Eric and I know how much we are carrying around. I don’t carry Nicolina in her car seat anymore. It’s too heavy. I rather carry her on one arm and the car seat on the other. Or I leave the car seat in the car. After the weighing and measuring the nurse asked me some questions about Nicolina’s development. Everything was normal and good. Then the doctor came in. When the doctor came in and started talking to us Nicolina started bawling. Poor girl. She was crying the whole time the doctor examined her. She was so scared. She tried to hide her head under my arm. She wanted to get away. I told the doctor not to worry because Nicolina got scared of our previous doctor in Rexburg too. (Just not this much, I didn’t tell him that though.) She has just developed stranger anxiety very early..hehe. Everything was great with her. She is a healthy girl! When the doctor was done, he left us and we had to wait like 20 minutes before the nurse came in to give the 4 immunization shots. By now Nicci was both tired and a little hungry. Well, she got her shots and I kind of rushed out of the doctor’s office. I was tired and irritated. On the way out the doctor stood and talked to one of the nurses. When he saw us he started laughing and kind of joking about Nicci’s “thunder thighs” as we passed them.” Blah! Like I haven’t heard that before. It was not fun! Eric laughed about it later when I told him. “Oh, the doc was just joking” he said. Oh well. I’m glad that she is healthy and well though. Next appointment will be at 9 months.

The Riverwalk and Alamo!

Eric and I have been wanting to go to the Riverwalk since we first got here. But for some reason we have been busy doing other things. However, on Saturday we went downtown San Antonio. We had heard before how beautiful the Riverwalk was. This however, exceeded my expectations. It was more than beautiful. It was so peaceful. I felt like I was in Spain or something.

We ate at a nice Mexican restaurant and walked around for a couple of hours. We went there with the Sheffield’s. When we first got there it was a little bit cold. After a while it got warmer, and then really hot. We put sunscreen lotion on Nicolina. For some reason I think of Spain when I smell sun lotion. I think of the two occasions my family went there for the summer when I was younger. I always think of summer when I smell it.
On the Riverwalk, they had boat tours that went from one end to the other. We didn’t go on one because we had strollers and all, but maybe some other time. I am definitely going to take some of my siblings there when they come and visit this summer.

We also went to the Alamo. We watched a 15 min video about the history. It helped me a lot. I hardly knew anything of the Alamo when we first got there. They had a big celebration outside the Alamo. They had dancers and speakers. It was cool. We went inside and they told us interesting facts about the building.

More pictures from our day in downtown San Antonio are located in our San Antonio photo album.
This afternoon Nicolina is going to have her little late 6 month checkup. I’m excited to see how much she has grown! I will get back later and tell you how it went! I’m guessing she is over 20 pounds now!

New Washer and Dryer! …and maybe later a Dog?

Eric and I now have our own washer and dryer. It’s so nice to be able to do laundry whenever I want to in my apartment. I love them! They fit perfectly in our pantry. They work great.

Eric and I have been discussing the possibility that we might get a pet around my birthday in May. We have been discussing either a dog or a cat. Right now I think we are going to get a dog. I’m so excited. I have always wanted to have my own dog. We had a dog for a short while when I was a kid and I loved it. Right now we are looking at and discussing different types of dogs. I really love Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. That was also the dog we had when I was a little girl. They are very expensive though..

Eric is more into getting a Beagle. (Above) I’m trying to find books to read about different breeds. There are so many cute dogs! Eric and I got library card this weekend so now we can go to the library any time we want. I’m getting very excited for my birthday now! Maybe we will get a dog in May!

Busy Week!

I have had a busy week so far. Yesterday we went to a ward Valentine Dance. It was fun. They had two instructors that taught us how to swing. Nicolina slept almost the whole time, but for the last part she woke up and we danced a little bit with her. She loves it when we swing her around.

Eric and I are ready to go dancing!

Today Nicolina and I went to an activity called “Music time” for our stake. Our friend Brenda and her 1 year old son Andrew picked us up and we went to the stake center. This was our first time going. There were a lot of children in different ages there. Nicolina found two seven month old girls to play with. We sang songs, marched, played games and listened to a story. Our stake does this every week so I’m going to go there every time now. Nicolina loved being around other children! A little girl sat and held Nicolina and she looked all happy. Tomorrow Nicolina and I are going to an activity called “park day” for the first time. Mom’s and kids in our ward go there every week and play with their children. I’m sure it will be fun. I’m glad I get out and do things. Nicolina likes it and I get to go and talk to other mom’s.
It has been really warm these last couple of days. It’s nice when I take Nicolina on our daily walk.
Nicolina is getting better at practicing crawling. She has learned how to stand like she is about to crawl, so I think she will be crawling soon. I have posted a video of her trying to crawl. You should check it out!

Good Days!

I’m taking time to write a little bit, while Nicolina is taking a nap. Nicolina is rolling more and more everyday now! She is constantly looking for things to put in her mouth. Yesterday I found a piece of paper in her mouth. Naughty baby haha! It made me decide that I really need to vacuum more often and make sure that no small things are on the floor. She babbles and coos a lot more now too. I can sit for a long time and watch her suck on one of her toys while she makes funny noises. I recorded a video of this last night. Maybe I can upload it later tonight.

Nicolina has been sleeping in her own room during the night for two days now. It’s harder and I get less sleep…but it’s worth it. The only hard thing is that the baby monitor picks up about every little noise so 80% of the time when I get up to check on her, she is still sleeping. I’m learning to stay longer in bed and not check on her so much. I have noticed that she sleeps really light since we put her in her own room. Any noise during the night will wake her up. Luckily she falls right back asleep. I think that everything will work better in a matter of a few days.
I just have to put this picture in here. Today when Nicolina and I came home from a walk, this cat sat outside our door. The cat was making noises and actually ran into our apartment when i opened the door. I managed to get her/him out. For about an hour the cat sat outside our door purring. Cute!

My friend Brenda printed out about eight pages about different things we can do in San Antonio. There are SO many! I sat and read through all of them yesterday and highlighted things I want to see as a first priority. I’m so excited! Eric and I are never going to be bored like we often were in little Rexy. Here we are always going to have things to do!
Yesterday we found a little store with a Spanish name. We went in there to look at what they had. They had really cheap, but nice clothes. We ended up buying three shirts, three shorts and three ones i’s, and we got everything for 15 dollars. It’s getting so hot here and Nicolina has grown out of so many of her clothes so we decided to get some. I think they are very cute! Nicolina is wearing the pink shirt and shorts today! (Notice that all the clothes are in size 12 months!! And they fit her perfect! My big, cute baby!!)

It’s February!

I think time really flies right now. When I was younger I always felt like time was going so slow. Now it is the opposite! Yesterday, Eric, Nicolina and I drove around a little bit exploring the area. We saw that we live about 15 minutes from a Six Flags! Yeah! We are excited to go there in the summer! We tried to find a certain mall, but ended up somewhere else and found the biggest Baby’s R Us we have ever seen. Wow! It was so much fun to just walk around and look at all the baby stuff. Then we went to JC Penny’s and there we found a cute little baby dress that was 75% off the original price. I couldn’t help myself so I bought it. Cute huh!

Tonight is a big night for Nicolina…and me! Tonight Eric and I are going to go on our first date…alone…since Nicci was born. I have been really cautious about letting anyone babysit Nicolina besides family. I don’t know why, but the thought has really scared me. But now when she is bottle fed and sleeps well, I can’t come up with a good reason not too. Our friends Melissa and Dave are going to watch her for about three hours. Nicolina really seems to like them. Eric and I are going to go out and eat dinner and do something else we haven’t decided yet. We are very excited! I think Nicolina will have a fun night with her babysitters! I have just vacuumed the whole apartment, payed rent and fed Nicolina, and now she is sleeping. Nicolina and I often listen to three CD’s that I bought in Sweden. They are Swedish children’s songs and lullabies. I used to listen to them as a kid. Hearing the songs bring back a lot of memories. I hope they will help Nicolina to pick up some Swedish. Sometimes I find it hard to only speak Swedish with her. But I’m trying my best!
Last night my mom arrived in the US! She is going to live with my sis and her husband for a week, helping them with the baby. I’m happy she is in the same country as me! That’s always something!
